Research Center for Biological Diversity
The Research Center for Biological Diversity studies evolutionary processes that have led to the diversity of species and the genetic ability to respond to the environment. Furthermore, this center collects and preserves various biological samples, including those of living organisms unique to the Tokai Area (e.g., flora that are known to occur only at oligotrophic wetland areas around Ise Bay). In addition, the center obtains DNA barcodes for these samples experimentally and contributes to the development of international databases of gene sequences for classifying and monitoring all living organisms in the world and in the Tokai region.
